Reuters сообщаетthat the Hungarian government has signed an agreement with Belarus to help build the country’s second nuclear power plant.

“The agreement on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy signed here today is of great importance, which allows us to use the experience gained here by Belarus in the construction of reactors using similar technology,” said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, without specifying the details of the agreement.

The publication says that two reactors in central Hungary with a capacity of 1,2 GW each have been built by Rosatom since 2014.

“The €12,5 billion ($13,57 billion) project took a long time to implement, despite the fact that nuclear power is not subject to European Union sanctions against Russia,” the report said.

Nuclear power engineering is not subject to EU sanctions against the Russian Federation. Hungary, which receives most of its energy from Russia, opposes expanding sanctions on the nuclear sector.
