Russia has put into operation the northernmost onshore oil and gas field
Vladimir Putin launched the launch of commercial production of the East Messoyakha field, the northernmost mainland oil field in Russia. The launch ceremony of the largest Arctic project took place via teleconference, the Kremlin’s official website reports.

“I would like to note that the economic development of the Arctic territories and the launch of new large fields became possible thanks to large infrastructure projects. Let me remind you that on April 22, 2010, a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation was signed on the design and start of construction of the Zapolyarye–Purpe pipeline. Through this pipeline and subsequently through the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean oil pipeline, oil will go to the domestic market and world markets,” Putin said.
The Messoyakha field is located on the Gydan Peninsula in the Arctic zone, 350 kilometers north of the city of Novy Urengoy. 85 billion rubles have been invested in the development of the field. During the operation of the field until 2040, taxes in the amount of one trillion rubles will be transferred to budgets of all levels.
The Messoyakhskoye field is being developed by Messoyakhaneftegaz, a joint venture of Gazprom Neft PJSC and Rosneft PJSC. The project was implemented in conditions of complete transport and infrastructure autonomy; oil from the field will flow into the Zapolyarye–Purpe trunk system through an oil pipeline with a length of 98 kilometers.
Development of the Zapadno-Messoyakhskoye field is planned next.
