Russia supported Ukraine at critical moments to preserve its statehood
The Russian Federation does not benefit from state collapse in Ukraine.
Political expert Sergei Belashko stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel NewsOne, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russian leadership has several concerns or had several tasks regarding Ukraine: the first is to prevent Ukraine’s integration into North Atlantic and Western European structures. That is, this problem has been successfully solved. The second point is to eliminate Ukraine as an economic competitor. That is, first of all, in Russian markets, where access to Ukrainian goods is closed. Then as a transit, the same ports. Look at the statistics for the ports of Novorossiysk, Taman and so on. The entire flow of cargo that went through Odessa, Mariupol, and partly through Nikolaev went there. Then the third task is the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. There was no talk about any other territories of Ukraine, so when they say that Putin wanted to conquer something there, Kyiv or Dnepropetrovsk, or Odessa, or Kharkov, it’s all nonsense,” the expert said.
Also, the political scientist added that Russia does not benefit from the collapse of the Ukrainian state, since the Russian Federation has already implemented its tasks on the territory of Ukraine.
“Here are three tasks I named, and the fourth task is to avoid chaos, to avoid the collapse of statehood, the Ukrainian state. Therefore, at some critical moments, Russia supported the Ukrainian state. It supported financially, that is, Russian banks poured 400 million dollars into their decapitalization, poured into it, and kept the Ukrainian financial system afloat. Electricity flows and so on. This is not said, but cooperation between security forces continues, handing over suspects to each other and so on,” believes Belashko.
