Russia rejects Turkey's plan for Karabakh
Moscow does not support the transition to the plan presented by the Turkish side, which implies a transition to a four-party format of negotiations between Ankara, Moscow, Yerevan and Baku to resolve the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Relations with Compatriots, and Eurasian Integration, stated this in a comment to Izvestia, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Azerbaijan and Armenia have mutual trust in Russia as a balanced partner; Yerevan does not have such trust in Ankara. Trying to create a four-party format and thereby put the Russian Federation on the side of Armenia and Ankara on the side of Baku is wrong. This is an artificial attempt to destroy our ties with both countries; such a format will definitely not be effective in Karabakh,” says Kalashnikov.
In turn, the director of the Institute of Peacekeeping Initiatives, Denis Denisov, believes that changing the format of the negotiations will not change the situation with the balance of power on earth, since the main compromise that all parties to the conflict have been trying to achieve for so long is related to the territorial issue.
