Russia declares Western appointee in Bosnia illegitimate
The time of the UN High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina has passed - Russia considers the activities of Christian Schmidt illegitimate.
The Russian Ambassador to Sarajevo, Igor Kalabukhov, stated this in an interview with Izvestia, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Russia’s attitude towards the office of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina is well known. His time has passed. The lack of consent from the UN Security Council to the arbitrary decision of our Western partners to appoint a “new high representative” means that the nominee, German citizen Christian Schmidt, was not approved for this post. Therefore, from our point of view, his activities are illegitimate,” the diplomat said.
According to him, a significant part of the responsibility for the aggravation of the political situation in BiH lies with the former high representative Valentin Inzko, who introduced criminal liability for denying the “genocide” in Srebrenica.
“No matter what highly moral reasons he justified his rash step, still, as an experienced politician, he should have foreseen its consequences, which would come back to haunt not only Bosnia and Herzegovina, but throughout the entire region. Our assessments of this decision are known.
Is it possible to neutralize the extremely negative resonance caused by it? From my point of view, this is extremely difficult due, first of all, to fundamental differences in the views of the Bosnian parties on the essence of the problem raised by Valentin Inzko’s decision and differences in the legal interpretation of the current situation,” Kalabukhov concluded.
