Russia promises Serbia to block recognition of Kosovo separatists by Interpol
Russia will block the admission of the self-proclaimed state of Kosovo, an illegally seized region of Serbia, into this organization at the upcoming Interpol General Assembly.
This was stated by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev at a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Nebojsa Stefanovic, which took place in Ufa.
The negotiations were devoted to improving cooperation between the Serbian police and Russian security services, joint work to combat terrorism, as well as organized and other forms of crime.
Stefanovic informed Patrushev about the threat to the security of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, pointing to the recent incident with the invasion of the Slavic enclaves of Kosovo by Albanian special forces, when a UN representative, a citizen of the Russian Federation, was beaten.
According to the press service of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the security situation for Serbs in Kosovo is increasingly deteriorating.
Stefanovic emphasized that the separatist regime of Kosovo has repeatedly sent a request for admission to Interpol, recalling that this violates the basic rules of this international police organization, as well as UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
Stefanovic added that the latest attack by Albanian special forces in northern Kosovo and Metohija is proof that Pristina does not respect international law and Interpol rules.
The Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs thanked Patrushev for Russia's fundamental support for Serbia on the issue of the status of Kosovo and Metohija.
Patrushev confirmed his position of supporting Serbia at the upcoming Interpol General Assembly. According to him, Russia will take all measures to prevent the admission of unrecognized Kosovo to this organization, the Serbian publication Politika reported.
Stefanovic is on a two-day visit to Russia on the occasion of the 10th International Senior Security Summit.
