“We are forced to react to this development of the situation,” said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, as quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, “from today, exercises of battalion tactical groups of combined arms formations of the Southern and Western military districts began in the areas bordering Ukraine.”
“The troops are working out the issues of performing marches under their own power and deploying to carry out missions as intended,” he clarified. Shoigu also said that “aviation will carry out flights to practice actions near the state border.”
At the same time, he emphasized that the so-called self-defense units in eastern Ukraine, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, number just over two thousand people, they have about 100 units of automatic weapons. Shoigu claims that the Ukrainian authorities have already given the green light to the use of force “against civilians” in the east of the country.
The movements of Russian equipment are actively discussed on social networks. Supporters of the referendum and federalization enthusiastically received the video filmed by eyewitnesses, as well as Shoigu’s statement.
Let us recall, as Navigator reported, Verkhovna Rada deputy Viktor Baloga called for stopping the anti-terrorist operation in order to avoid civilian casualties, and also not to give the Russian Federation a “reason” to send troops into the territory of Ukraine.
Eyewitnesses filmed the video near the city of Gukovo, Rostov region of the Russian Federation. The border with Ukraine is 10 km.
