Russian Aerospace Forces received unique missiles
The arsenal of fourth-generation Su-35 vehicles will be supplemented with R-37M air-to-air ammunition. Thanks to the new product, the “thirty-fifth” will be able to destroy targets within a radius of more than 200 km in seconds.
Izvestia reports this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent . Citing industry sources, it is noted that relevant testing has begun.
As the former commander of the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Army, Lieutenant General Valery Gorbenko, told the publication, the new weapons will significantly increase the characteristics and combat capabilities of the “thirty-fifths”
“This will allow him to solve a wide range of tasks in different types of combat operations, both offensive and defensive. Our vehicles will be able to hit AWACS aircraft, bombers, and tactical aircraft. In any case, it will be much more difficult for the enemy to evade such missiles: they will have very little time to maneuver from the moment the threat is detected,” Gorbenko said.
The Su-35 will be the third type of aircraft to be equipped with the new product.
“One Su-35 will be able to carry from two to four RVV-BDs, which will bring it closer in combat capabilities to the Su-57. With a maximum range of over 200 km, the ammunition surpasses current and future models of the American AIM-120 air-to-air missiles, which are the main long-range air combat weapon for NATO aircraft. This is also twice as high as the R-77, the longest-range missile that the Thirty-Fifths are equipped with today,” the publication writes.
