Russian vaccine copes with the mutation that scares Johnson
The Russian Sputnik V vaccine is effective against a new strain of coronavirus discovered in several European countries.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, announced this at a signing ceremony for a memorandum of intent between the Gamaleya Center, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), R-Pharm, and the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca on cooperation in developing a coronavirus vaccine.
“We also confirm that, according to our information, Sputnik V is highly effective against the new mutation of the virus discovered in Europe. It is as effective against it as against existing strains,” TASS quotes Dmitriev as saying.
As PolitNavigator reported, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new mutation of the coronavirus, after which several countries blocked travel to and from the UK.
