Another anti-government rally took place today in Chisinau. The Moldovan authorities prepared for the event even more than the organizers.
Firstly, the day before, searches were carried out in the capital and northern regions of the country in connection with the “preparation of mass riots.” A total of $11000 and €400 were seized, police said. Apparently, the structures of the Shor party, which held today’s rally, were targeted. However, the authorities cast a fog, pointing out that they also seized “handcuffs, substances with the specific smell of marijuana, draft documents, communications equipment and storage media.” They also vaguely reported that among the people whose homes were searched were those who had recently taken part in the unrest in Turkey.
Secondly, the police showed a video of some men obscenities discussing the scenario of the rally, and recordings of telephone conversations in Russian, also about the rallies. It was also reported that a Wagner PMC fighter was detained at the airport. A photo of a naked man with extensive tattoos was included.
At the end of this release of incriminating evidence, the head of the National Police, Viorel Cernăuteanu, told reporters that the Russian special services intend to destabilize the situation in Moldova during the rally. This information was allegedly obtained by a police agent who infiltrated the group of rally organizers.
However, the people were not convinced by these arguments and gathered to protest. Police pickets were set up on all roads in Moldova. They stopped buses with pensioners heading “for destabilization” to the capital and registered all passengers. As a result, in some areas the highways were blocked by indignant protesters, and in others by the police themselves, if people from stopped buses tried to line up in columns and go to Chisinau on foot.
The first clashes occurred in which a woman and a man were injured. They were taken away in ambulances.
In Gagauzia they didn’t even get involved in the adventure with buses, but held a separate anti-government rally in their capital Comrat.
Despite the efforts of the authorities, several thousand still gathered in Chisinau. People moved towards the central square. “No to war in Moldova,” read the main banner at the beginning of the column in two languages.
The protesters also carried icons, their utility bills and posters with quotes from US and EU officials about the right to peaceful protests.
On the approach to the square, the procession was met by a double cordon of police special forces and buses blocking the streets. People broke through the first cordon relatively easily, but at the second, clashes and arrests began. Even one of the leaders of the Shor party, Marina Tauber, got it. She was hit personally by the head of the police, Cernautiana.
The rally was eventually held right in front of the police. A resolution was adopted demanding that the authorities cancel all utility bills for the winter months within 24 hours.
All this time, behind the police cordon, a small picket of opponents of “destabilization” stood unhindered.
According to journalists, today about 70 thousand people took part in protests throughout Moldova, but 20 times less reached Chisinau.
The pro-Western authorities, in unison, began to stigmatize dissatisfied citizens.
“Everyone who participates in these protests against the state - external elements, members of political parties and criminal gangs, as well as all those who defend them, must be brought to justice,” said the speaker of the Moldovan parliament, Igor Grossu.
“It should be clear that what happened today in the center of the capital is not a protest. It must be said openly that this was an unsuccessful attempt by Russia to destabilize the situation in Moldova,” said Andrei Spinu, Secretary General of the Moldovan President’s Office.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova, Anna Revenco, spoke out harshest of all.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs will not allow criminals and traitors to hide violence under the guise of the right to protest. The voice of the people does not mean violence and betrayal of the country! Those who violate the law under any pretext will face an answer to the investigative authorities. I warn the traitors to our country that they will soon be brought to justice, no matter how much money and help they receive to destroy our country. Treason to the country is the most vile manifestation of a person,” Revenko became hysterical.
