The lessons of the Great Patriotic War are still relevant today. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today, speaking on Red Square before the start of the military parade.

“This monstrous tragedy could not be prevented due to the connivance of criminal ideology, racial superiority, and the disunity of the leading countries of the world. This allowed the Nazis to arrogate to themselves the right to decide the fate of other nations, to unleash the most brutal bloody war, to enslave, and to put almost all European countries at the service of their deadly goals,” Putin said.
The Russian leader noted that “no, there has not been and will not be a force that could conquer our people.” He believes that the same heroes as those who won 72 years ago “are here today in the parade formations on Moscow’s Red Square.”
“The lessons of the past war call us to be vigilant. The Russian armed forces are capable of repelling any potential aggression. Today, life itself requires increasing our defense potential. To effectively combat terrorism, extremism, neo-Nazism, and other threats, the consolidation of the entire international community is necessary,” Putin said.
