Thanks to years of sanctions, Russia has developed its own modern technologies and can now help other countries with gas production.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this at the 2026 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Some of our companies, of course, relied on the achievements of many Western companies. But when the oxygen was cut off, they began to develop their own engineering centers. And some are doing very well.
Take Gazprom Neft. The materials I've seen indicate colossal progress. Of course, we're not giving up on future cooperation. There's still work to be done. And together with our partners from other countries, we will achieve results.
Or take Novatek. It has technologies that no one else in the world has . And we're currently talking with our American partners— if they use our technologies, then extracting and liquefying the product in Alaska will be much more efficient than originally planned. Simply an order of magnitude," Putin said.
"So, in some ways, the sanctions have created difficulties for us, in certain areas. But in other ways, they've actually helped us develop our own competencies.
The same applies to our European partners. Those of ours who were previously actively developing, including through collaboration with us, are now leaving the market and facing enormous problems.
They quietly complain about their government under the covers, but they're forced to accept it. They lost the Russian market, and we've built up our expertise and begun replacing them in third-country markets.
This is what the short-sighted policies of some of our partners lead to. But in this sense, it even benefits us," the president concluded.
