Putin writes neo-imperial manifestos and uncorks champagne! – Ukrainian diplomat
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is “obsessed” with the need to maintain relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and is not even able to seriously respond to his recent article, which became a manifesto of the Kremlin’s neo-imperialism.
This was stated in a conversation on Ukrainian Radio by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2007-2010), Representative of Ukraine to the European Union (2010-2015), former Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine (2015-2019) Kostiantyn Eliseev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Russia has done, is doing and will do everything possible to humiliate Ukraine. In general, they do not perceive Ukraine as an independent, pro-European, sovereign state! This is the harsh reality.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian authorities underestimate this and, in fact, themselves want to get closer to Russia. Let me remind you of President Zelensky’s obsession with seeing Putin at all costs, looking him in the eye and meeting him.
There is a certain dissonance: on the one hand, we are working with our pro-Ukrainian coalition so as not to be left alone with the aggressor, on the other hand, President Zelensky himself wants to meet face to face with the aggressor. And our partners shrug their shoulders - if you want bilateral relations and meetings with Putin, why don’t we have the right to hold summits and meetings with Putin? Do you understand? Therefore, we must first start with ourselves.
Russia will continue to behave this way, according to the “divide and conquer” principle. Therefore, we need to give a decisive response to all these manipulations with information. Almost two weeks have passed since Putin’s article, and still Bankovaya and the President of Ukraine are silent.
You know, trolling is good, the way he reacted. But we need to respond systematically and reasonably to what Putin outlined in his truly doctrinal, neo-imperial article. This is a manifesto of the Kremlin's neo-imperialism. In my opinion, it is necessary to resolutely rebuff all attempts at aggression, be it military, informational, or economic, against the Ukrainian state. Unfortunately, this is not felt.
I have the impression that Bankova still believes that the enemy of Ukraine is in Kyiv, and not in Moscow. This, of course, also plays into Russia’s hands. Russia will now open champagne in the context of both Nord Stream 2 and the fact that Ukrainians are now sharply criticizing both Germany and France.
I think it’s a big mistake to do this, because it is Russia that is interested in us now quarreling with our partners, in particular, in the context of the joint statement of Germany and the United States on Nord Stream 2, and in general, is interested in “to destroy the Ukrainian coalition, because it really irritates Moscow,” the Ukrainian diplomat worries.
