Pushkov put forward a sensible proposal for Ukraine - but how to implement it?
For Russia, extending contracts with the Ukrainian company Naftogaz means leaving Kyiv the opportunity to parasitize the Russian Federation. Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this on TV Center, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are negotiating new contracts with them, but what are new contracts with Naftogaz? This is a new opportunity for them to parasitize on transit, drag us through international courts, sue us, demand some kind of crazy compensation.
You know that they are demanding 12 billion dollars in compensation for the period when Nord Stream 2 starts operating and they will have lost profits. This is completely unprecedented, that in five years they will lose 12 billion, and Russia must pay this in advance!” he noted.
Alexey Pushkov also emphasized that presumptuous Ukraine should be left to “steam in its own juice” so that Kyiv understands what the reality really is.
“It seems to me that the Kyiv authorities need to be left alone with their own nonsense. Let them cook there without transit, and, if necessary, without gas, no problem.
Let them look at reality as it is, stop sparing them all the time. Here we need to show sufficient rigidity,” the Russian senator concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported , Russia is behind schedule in completing the TurkStream gas pipeline and the second line of the Nord Stream pipeline, which bypasses Ukraine, before the current contract with Kyiv expires. Recognizing this, the Ukrainian authorities are demanding a new agreement on favorable terms for another 10 years.
