Residents of the LDPR, undoubtedly, are waiting for Russian troops to help in the event of a full-scale offensive by Ukraine, but they are also ready for the fact that they will have to defend themselves on their own.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this at a press conference in Donetsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Do you see conditions under which Russian troops could enter the DPR?” – asked a journalist from the British media ITV.
“The situation on the contact line is tense to the limit. We look at one of the options: Ukraine goes on the offensive and begins to use all the weapons it had, plus the weapons that were and are being imported into the territory of Ukraine supposedly for protection. This is starting to be used against the civilian population, against cities and regions of Donbass.
Of course, our military personnel, we will do everything possible to protect our citizens on our own. Whether these forces are enough or not is unclear. In such situations, it is difficult to make forecasts, we have our desire, but we would not like to present what we wish as reality,” said Pushilin.
“I do not rule out that if a full-scale offensive is launched, if populated areas and civilians are destroyed, that Russia may take such steps. But this decision must be made by Russia itself. I wouldn't rule it out, it's absolutely obvious. Even taking into account the fact that more than 700 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation already live on the territory of Donbass, who have received documents and are permanently residing here,” added the head of the DPR.
