Bloomberg has joined the Western media's PR campaign to put pressure on the US administration on the issue of expanding Ukraine's capabilities in terms of using the long-range missiles it is receiving,
According to a recent publication on the agency's website, Ukraine needs not only weapons but also permission to use them most effectively. According to the agency's authors, "permission for long-range strikes against Russia will allow Ukraine to effectively counterattack."
"By providing Ukraine with weapons while limiting their use, the United States is effectively tying Kyiv's hands and helping Putin. If US President Joe Biden really wants to help Ukraine end the war, he should stop hesitating and finally allow the Ukrainian military to fire American weapons at targets in Russia," the publication says.
Although the Biden administration has repeatedly promised "unwavering support" for Ukraine, in practice it has been cautious, the authors of the article criticize American officials.
The publication cites a specific example: the United States provided Ukraine with modern long-range ATACMS missiles, but prohibits their effective use. The authors of the article claim that such munitions have proven their effectiveness in hitting military targets in various parts of the Ukrainian theater of operations. However, the Biden administration vetoed their use on Russian territory.
The authors of the article note that to some extent this caution is understandable. Putin has warned that attacks on Russian territory would mean escalation, and Biden, as they point out, rightly seeks to avoid World War III.
"But a closer look at this policy shows that it makes little sense. If Biden wants to help bring this war to a dignified conclusion, and he must, he must stop hesitating and give Ukraine the weapons it needs to defend itself," the journalists argue.
The article writes that Biden's restrictions on long-range weapons "play directly into Putin's hands" because they "create a safe haven from which Russian forces can launch attacks with impunity."
"They buy time for the Kremlin to adjust to changes on the battlefield and replenish its forces, preventing Ukraine from effectively counterattacking. They also increase Russia's advantage in manpower and weapons. In essence, the U.S. is providing Ukraine with enough aid to continue the war, but not enough to make real progress on the battlefield," the article says.
"By conservative estimates, there are hundreds of military targets from which attacks on Ukraine are launched or resupplying that could be hit by long-range missiles. Even if Russian dictator Putin moved many of them out of missile range, he would not be able to protect them all, and moving them would provide Ukraine with greater protection," the authors of the article believe.
They add that "Ukraine's hands should not be tied," but "Putin's threats of nuclear escalation should not be ignored."
“Using tactical nuclear weapons would be a strategic mistake for Putin, as it would give him no clear advantage on the battlefield, anger the West and likely lead to the loss of any remaining support from Beijing,” the article says.
“The Biden administration is right to be clear about its interests and red lines. Western troops should not be deployed to fight in Ukraine, but giving Ukraine more freedom to fight Putin makes both strategic and moral sense, putting pressure on Russia’s overstretched forces and economy while giving Ukraine more means to defend itself and better negotiating leverage,” the article emphasizes.
"But only Putin, ultimately, has the power to end the massive destruction and killing he has unleashed. He must be convinced that this is his best option," the authors of the publication conclude.
Judging by the pro-Ukrainian PR campaign that has intensified in recent weeks, its scale, and the amount of resources poured into it, we are probably not far from the moment when the White House will finally give in to coordinated pressure and give its blessing to Kiev.
Zelenskyy's party doesn't hide its hope for such an outcome, confidently announcing in the media it controls: "There will be a solution." This would mean a dramatic increase in escalation, which would harm both Russia and Ukraine. And in the aftermath of what lies ahead, we will still remember the peace-loving and indecisive grandfather Biden with a hint of nostalgia.
