The time has come to restore the rights of the USSR flag - expert
In Russia, the time has come to recognize the state flag of the USSR as a symbol of victory in the Great Patriotic War at the official level.
This was stated on the PolitWera internet channel by retired Colonel Vladimir Trukhan of the Central Office of the Russian Ministry of Defense, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In this regard, Trukhan praised Belarus, where such a decision was made back in the mid-90s. At the same time, the flags of the former Soviet republics, as Trukhan emphasized, have nothing to do with victory.
“There is no way to attach to the symbols of victory what was in the USSR, when they changed the flags of the union republics en masse. The state emblem of Belarus in the form in which it now exists has absolutely nothing to do with the symbols of victory.
Let me first praise Lukashenko for a change. This rarely happens to me, but if there is a reason for it, then why not. By decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated 96, the state flag of the USSR was equated to symbols of victory, among other things, and the official Victory Banner, which has a slightly different configuration.
It was difficult for us. With all the troubles, relationships and so on, let's say that the Soviet Union won the Great Patriotic War, namely the Soviet Union, and it would be legitimate to restore historical justice and use not only the assault banner, but also the flag of the USSR as a symbol of victory. I believe that the time has come because it will simply be historical truth,” Trukhan said.
