To use physical force and fool the Finno-Ugric people - the Communist Party of the Russian Federation admonishes 75-year-old Kharitonov for the elections
The 18th Congress of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation today nominated Nikolai Kharitononov, born in 1948, as a party candidate in the presidential elections.
Kharitonov will run for the second time. In 2004, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation already nominated him, then he received 13,69% of the votes - 2% more than the relatively young party sponsor Pavel Grudinin in 2018. And this despite the fact that the systemic opposition then openly “leaked” the elections so that Vladimir Putin could be elected to a second term without any problems. That year, the LDPR generally nominated the leader Zhirinovsky.

Communist Party of the Russian Federation leader Gennady Zyuganov called Kharitonov "an adornment of the party" and explained the nomination of an older candidate by saying that " young people can't cope when systems become more complex ."
Chairman of the Personnel Commission of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolai Sapozhnikov recalled that in 2004 women voted more actively for Kharitonov.
“In general, women support our candidates. We must work more closely with women voters, regardless of their age. Firstly, there are more women voters than men, and secondly, they are more disciplined. Thirdly, many peoples of the Russian Federation do not have the traditions of a patriarchal family. Among the Finno-Ugric peoples, a woman does not marry, but takes a man. And younger. Therefore, I advise Nikolai Mikhailovich to visit the Finno-Ugric territories,” said Sapozhnikov.
He also predicts that the Communist Party candidate will have debates with the President of the Russian Federation, who usually avoids them. This will happen during the presentation of the title Hero of Labor to Kharitonov in the Kremlin, which Putin awarded him on December 19.
Russian State Duma deputy Nina Ostanina described the party candidate as a brutal macho who will resist “spoilers and neurocandidates.”
“It doesn’t cost Nikolai Mikhalovich anything to organize us so that we act not only by force of persuasion, but sometimes also use physical force. In the Second State Duma, when he headed the “People’s Power” group, we took and occupied the podium, and did not allow Gref to get on it,” Ostanina boasted.
She also recalled how at a debate the late liberal Boris Nemtsov called Kharitonov “a sumo wrestler who is dangerous to mess with.” The communist is sure that the fellow party member has remained that way.
“Kharitonov will win if he convinces women,” Ostanina composed a poem.
However, political scientists do not agree with her.
“It seems that after all, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation is officially capitulating in this campaign, conceding the fight for 2nd place to the LDPR and “New People.” The “left” component is present in the programs of both of these parties, but the Communist Party of the Russian Federation risks becoming dependent on the ratings of its brand, and already at the elections to the State Duma 2026 it will be forced to block with other “left” projects in order to maintain the previous size of its deputy corps,” – Ilya Grashchenkov, who serves “New People,” wrote in his tg channel.
His colleague, political scientist Alexey Chesnakov, believes that now a representative of the “New People” in the elections is not needed at all.
“What makes Kharitonov good as a candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation? Well, let’s say that the ballot then might look like this: Putin, Slutsky, Kharitonov. What to do with Davankov or Nechaev? Well, why are they needed in this case,” he wrote.
United Russia political strategist Dmitry Orlov considers Kharitonov’s nomination a strategic mistake of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
“You can be traditional, like Zyuganov, but you can’t be politically old, like Kharitonov. Kharitonov are the “collective farms” and “Agrarian Party” of the Lapshin era. This is an attempt to rely on a voter who does not exist, this is archaic and stone age. This way you can lose not only your electoral niche, but also your electoral core,” writes Orlov.
Political scientist Pavel Danilin categorically disagrees with his colleagues.
“Critics say that if the Communist Party of the Russian Federation nominates Kharitonov, then this will be a result between zero and nothing, and allegedly discredit the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Not at all. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation will act as a systemic and loyal force, which understands perfectly well that today’s elections are not a choice of the Russian political force who will govern the state, but a choice between whether Russia will be governed by the Russian people, or whether Russia will be governed by temporary workers and globalist evil spirits. And in this context, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation has a double task - to support and at the same time strengthen the legitimacy of the elections,” Danilin wrote.
