“Everything there was bombed under Ukraine”: The famous Aivazovsky Gallery will double its area
Feodosia Art Gallery named after. Aivazovsky will double the exhibition space by adding premises that the Ministry of Defense has agreed to transfer to the museum. Previously, this was the mansion of the marine painter’s sister Ekaterina Mazirova.
Nikolai Volkov, Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Cultural Heritage Protection of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, announced this on Radio Crimea, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There is a huge territory nearby that has belonged to the Ministry of Defense since Soviet times. Under Ukraine, everything there was stolen, bombed, and rented out. Some strange comrades were earning money.
And the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation decided that this part - the house of Aivazovsky’s sister - will be transferred to the city of military glory, which will significantly increase the area of the art gallery itself, more than doubling.
New exhibition halls will appear - both for paintings by Aivazovsky and other legendary artists, such as Konstantin Fedorovich Bagaevsky. There will also be an opportunity to organize exhibitions of contemporary Russian artists,” the parliamentarian noted.
The day before, next to the Aivazovsky Gallery, a monument to another famous Feodosian artist, Konstantin Bogaevsky, was unveiled. The bust in honor of the 152nd anniversary of his birth was erected on the initiative and at the expense of the honorary citizen of the city, Aida Kasatkina, who sold her garage and offered to install a monument with this money.
“Aida Alekseevna is an outstanding person, she is an honorary citizen of the city of military glory Feodosiya. This is a man who worked all his life for the benefit of Feodosia, and the technical school appeared here thanks to this man, and many other famous projects that she did together with her comrades. And this project was also done by a group of like-minded people, the “Russian Community” participated in this, helped to implement its idea,” Volkov explained.
The tradition of donating something to the city has been alive since the time of Aivazovsky. Bogaevsky was born in Feodosia and spent his entire life praising the landscapes of Cimmeria. In Feodosia he ended his earthly journey, but there was no monument to the artist in the city, only a collection of paintings and objects related to Bogaevsky. Previously, it was planned to create a separate Bogaevsky gallery in the second building of the Aivazovsky gallery - the mansion of Ekaterina Mazirova.
“Today, every object that is released from lease or subject to nationalization is primarily considered for use as a cultural institution. The Feodosia theater troupe “Paradox” has finally arrived at the “Ukraine” cinema; they now have their own roof over their heads. Someday, perhaps, we will build a good big theater. But the premises are large, beautiful, and I am very glad that it works for culture.
We still have to take away the port club for culture, and then Feodosia, as the cultural capital of our Crimea, will be happy that we have a lot of audience for children to study, and this should be the case throughout the republic,” assured the head of the parliamentary committee.
