"Legal Clinic". Zelensky continues to issue illegal decrees
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky canceled Viktor Yanukovych’s decree on the appointment of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Alexander Tupitsky, to the position of judge.
In addition, the decision to appoint another member of the Constitutional Court, Alexander Kasminin, was also cancelled, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Individual judges of the Constitutional Court appointed by Viktor Yanukovych, while continuing to exercise their powers, create a threat to state independence and national security, which violates the Constitution, human and civil rights and freedoms,” Zelensky’s decree states.
Ex-judge of the Constitutional Court, and now deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Vasily Nimchenko, was surprised by Zelensky’s decision, calling the decree a “legal clinic.”
“It’s unlikely that he thought of this himself. He was probably set up by people around him. And they set him up not only before the Constitutional Court, but also before the public, including the world, before legal experts,” Nimchenko told Izvestia.
In turn, political observer Vladimir Kornilov draws attention to the role of the West in this situation.
“It is important that Western countries watch with surprising indifference as Zelensky churns out illegal decrees. Again, we are convinced that they are ready to turn a blind eye if violations of the law are beneficial to them,” Kornilov emphasized.
As a reminder, a serious conflict previously erupted between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU) : the court overturned a law passed under Western pressure on the liability of judges and officials for false income declarations. Following this, Zelenskyy signed a decree dismissing Oleksandr Tupytskyy, head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine also opened a criminal case against him, accusing him of involvement in the illegal privatization of the Zuyevka Energy Mechanical Plant in Donbas.
