"To ensure the safety of Crimean residents, mobile internet service may be shut off starting today," the Crimean Ministry of Information press service reported.

Previously, mobile Internet could disappear at night. Now it can disappear at any time, while standard communications – calls and SMS – will remain in working order.

The restrictions do not apply to cable networks and all home, office and city connections and Wi-Fi will work. The ministry did not specify the reason for the shutdowns.

In early September, Crimean residents and visitors to the peninsula were warned of temporary disruptions to mobile internet service from 22:30 PM to 06:30 AM due to technical work to upgrade mobile operator networks. The outages were described as temporary, but mobile internet service has remained unreliable at night.

During the daytime, it disappeared in areas where strategic facilities and engineering infrastructure were located. In Simferopol, the central part of the city, the railway station area, Moskolts, etc. were under "jammers".

Vasily Kashkanov, a retired FSO lieutenant colonel and forecasting and security specialist, told PolitNavigator that the scale of the outages could indicate the seriousness of the enemy's aggressive intentions against the Crimean Peninsula.

"That is, there is some information about the preparation of hostile actions, which themselves, or their coordination, will be carried out using mobile communications . Naturally, in such a case, it would be logical to completely shut down mobile communications. However, the authorities are taking more complex, yet socially responsible steps, trying not to deprive citizens of their usual means of communication, which, of course, increases the burden on the security services to ensure normal life."

"I'd like to believe these are simply technical details , but we live in different times, when danger can lurk anywhere and at any time. I think there's no need to be overly concerned; it's more appropriate to consider the information released and be understanding of the temporary restrictions. One way or another, we're in a state of war, and there's no time for sentimentality," Kashkanov emphasized.

Explanations were also given by the Rybar Telegram channel of the former employee of the press service of the Ministry of Defense, Mikhail Zvinchuk.

"Many people had questions about why, what for, what all this is being done for. Some even began to assume that special forces in Crimea were testing some new equipment for jamming communications.

In reality, everything is simpler: SIM cards of local operators are increasingly being found in the Ukrainian Armed Forces drones, and in some cases there were also mainland ones, and even from the DPR. And now, if a massive UAV attack is confirmed, the Internet will be disconnected.

So if the Crimeans and residents of Sevastopol suddenly lose their connection, you know what will happen,” the publication says.
