A monument to Lavrentiy Beria, who led the project to create nuclear weapons in the USSR, should be erected on the territory of the Russian embassy in Berlin. Political commentator and radio host Igor Vittel said this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"We won the war, after all, who's going to dispute that? And the very next day, after Victory Day, they were already preparing to bomb us. You see, if it hadn't been for Lavrenty Pavlovich Beria and our great scientists who created the atomic bomb, maybe it would have happened. And they would have told us the same story they told about Japan. It would have all been accompanied by beautiful PR and political ploys; they would have told us, 'Oh, look, we destroyed evil,'" Vittel said.
"We should put it up in Berlin. We're sure to still have some property there. We could put up a monument to Beria on the grounds of the Russian Embassy, if it's still operational . We could also paint some colorful graffiti," the observer added.
“The whole world would show this picture, and we would remind them. Especially against the backdrop of all these non-strategic nuclear exercises of ours. I think it’s a great idea,” radio host Ivan Pankin supported the idea.
