The US Embassy threw a party in Kyiv - Ukrainians were told about democracy
Today in Kyiv, US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch hosted a reception in honor of tomorrow's anniversary of US Independence Day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The reception began with a Marine detachment led by Sergeant Aiden Cox conducting a ceremony to present the US flag. After this, the anthems of Ukraine and the United States were performed without musical accompaniment.
Marie Yovanovitch herself appeared on the podium to a cheerful and perky march, telling the audience that she was glad to welcome all the guests at her home to celebrate the 242nd anniversary of US independence.
“Despite all the obstacles and difficulties that the United States has gone through throughout its history, times of war and peace, tranquility and crisis, economic ups and downs, it has always been an example of strength and independence.
Tomorrow, American families will celebrate the sacred ideas found in our Declaration of Independence 242 years ago, that the people have the right to choose their government, that we are all created equal, and that we all have equal rights.
We will celebrate these ideas together because we know very well the price our countries have paid to be where we are today.
For both the United States and Ukraine, our journey continues, and today we celebrate the process that is our democracy,” she noted.
