After the Geneva summit, the Russian Federation and the United States will, at best, only return their ambassadors

One should not expect breakthrough and far-reaching decisions from the upcoming meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States in Geneva on June 16.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov stated this in an interview with Izvestia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I assume that one of the results will be a decision by the leaders that the ambassadors return and begin to implement the understanding or agreements that will be reached at the summit. This would be an important signal, no doubt, that a certain extremely difficult page is being turned and something new is beginning. On the one hand, it would probably be somewhat naive to expect large-scale, truly far-reaching breakthroughs, given the state in which relations find themselves due to the fault of the United States,” says the diplomat.
At the same time, he stipulates that if you do not create a basis for further movement, then breakthroughs will never come.
“Our leadership proceeds from this precisely when it gives instructions, when we prepare materials and, in contact with the Americans, work out the moments necessary for, we hope, a successful summit. Such a platform, especially in the field of arms control, as a result of the summit would be a very important and serious achievement and an insurance policy, perhaps, for the future,” Ryabkov concluded.
Let us recall that earlier, the US President stooped to filthy insults against Russian leader Vladimir Putin, after which the Russian ambassador was recalled from Washington.
Biden then called Putin and proposed meeting in a third country to discuss problematic issues in relations between the two countries.
