NATO's new Secretary General Mark Rutte, who takes over from outgoing long-time leader Jens Stoltenberg on October 1, is an experienced politician whose task will be to consolidate the Alliance in the current uncertain conditions.

MGIMO professor Dmitry Danilov announced this at a press conference in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to Danilov, NATO's policy towards Russia will not change radically, and Rutte will maneuver between the Alliance members to convince them to support Ukraine.

"What about the new Secretary General, will he be able to change anything in the strategy that NATO has enshrined in the new strategic concept in Madrid? Obviously not.

However , his distinctive feature is that, firstly, he is a fairly experienced politician, probably a European long-liver, and has established himself as a figure who knows how to maneuver.

"His most important task here, in my view, during this difficult transitional period, when it's unclear what to do with Ukraine, what to do with the Ukrainian crisis, is how to consolidate the positions of nation-states and allies. He is the right figure to demonstrate this flexibility and try to align all interests," Danilov concluded.
