The head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, announced this at a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In addition, according to the minister, social facilities are resuming work in Mariupol.
“In Mariupol, water and electricity supplies to residential areas are being restored, streets are being cleared, and the first social facilities have begun to function. The territory of the Azovstal plant, including its underground structures, has been completely cleared of mines.
Demining of the Mariupol seaport has been completed, it is operating normally and has received the first cargo ships. The seaport of Berdyansk has also started operating. On instructions from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, we are ready to load grain at these ports,” Shoigu said.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin, in a commentary to PolitNavigator, emphasized that the launch of ports on the Sea of Azov is important for both Russia and the DPR.
“These are very large, main ports on the Azov Sea. Of course, they can greatly enhance the work of our communications. Plus, the main thing is that these are ports through which the republics, especially Donetsk, can operate. These ports allow for international trade. The most important thing is that delivering goods by sea is much cheaper and easier than transporting it all by road.”
