Poroshenko proposed depriving him of citizenship for participating in elections in Crimea
Presidential Bill No. 8297 has been registered in the Rada, which provides for the loss of Ukrainian citizenship for participating in voting in elections in Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The document is posted on the parliament's website.
According to the proposed changes, obtaining a Russian passport by a resident of Crimea “as a result of the annexation of the peninsula” is not a voluntary acquisition of another citizenship by a Ukrainian and does not entail any legal consequences for the citizen. But if a resident of Crimea took part in voting in elections held by the Russian Federation on the territory of Crimea, it is considered that the Ukrainian acquired another citizenship voluntarily.
In addition, participation in such elections is grounds for deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship. This rule applies to all citizens of Ukraine who have taken advantage of the electoral or other right granted by another citizenship.
