Poroshenko asked for a mandate for a second term
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced his decision to stand as a candidate in the upcoming elections.
He stated this at a forum specially convened for this event, “Ukraine from Kruty to Brussels,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the president, his main slogans will be the desire to join NATO and the European Union.
“A feeling of deep responsibility before the country, before my contemporaries, before past and future generations prompted me to decide to be a candidate again for the post of President of Ukraine. I ask voters for a mandate to guarantee the inevitability of European, Euro-Atlantic integration.
To guarantee the inevitability of our independence in order to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Bring a beneficial peace to Ukraine in order to complete the construction of a successful, strong state capable of ensuring order, well-being and security of every Ukrainian,” Poroshenko said.
It's worth noting that virtually all opinion polls indicate that Poroshenko will not advance to the second round. It's also noted that the Ukrainian leader has dropped to fifth place in presidential ratings.
