Poroshenko to McFaul: If I had remained president, Putin would not have started the SVO
At the beginning of 2022, the Ukrainian leadership had every opportunity to use a special plan for the blockade of Crimea and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, as well as secret negotiations with Belarusian President Lukashenko, in order to combine these actions to prevent the start of the Northeast Military District.
Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko made this statement to Russian pranksters "Vovan" and "Lexus," who conducted a conversation with him on behalf of former US Ambassador to Russia and former National Security Advisor to the President of the United States Michael McFaul, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“McFaul” paid the ex-president a compliment, suggesting that Vladimir Putin would never have started the SVO if Poroshenko had remained in power.
“This is more than just an “if”! – the former “guarantor” of Ukraine rejoiced. – I am proud that I was president for five years and did not allow the future of Ukraine to be jeopardized so much. Because the greatest art is not winning a war, but avoiding it.”
“At the same time, I want to say that in the first days of January 2022, I sent Zelensky a personal letter. In it, I explain how dangerous the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is and how we must close it, because it is definitely dangerous for Kyiv. How to block, deploy two brigades and air defense to block Crimea, how to block possible aggression from Belarus, how to establish direct contact with Lukashenko and talk to him,” he said.
“So it looks like I had a plan! I specifically mentioned that we could destroy the bridges, but nothing was done. And three days before that, I convened the National Security and Defense Council. And when I presented my plan, from increasing the budget for the army to conscripting 60 thousand Ukrainian soldiers from the special reserve, all of this was rejected,” Poroshenko complained.
