Kyiv, September 12 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Petro Poroshenko hopes that during negotiations with Russia a compromise will be found that will allow Ukraine to join the Free Trade Area with the European Union, but at the same time maintain economic relations with the Russian Federation.

Poroshenko said this at the Yalta European Strategy forum, which is being held in Kyiv this year.

“The issue of association is now more important for Russia than for the world... We must be quite flexible in negotiations,” he said.

Poroshenko believes that the upcoming negotiations should be used “to find a compromise” - “how to leave the possibility of joining the free trade zone and, at the same time, maintain relations with Russia.”

“Russia must also take a responsible position... Eliminate emotions and ambitions,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.

“I am firmly confident that we will have a positive result from these negotiations,” Poroshenko concluded.
