It's time to start forming a three-million-strong army - Russian colonel
Russia needs to move now to a two-year conscription period and begin forming a three-million-strong contract army.
Military observer and retired colonel Viktor Baranets stated this on the Red Lines television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" They're already talking about how we need to start building a three-million-strong army . By 26, we're supposed to have one and a half million—you know, there's a special decree from Putin, but that's not enough—we need to start working on the long-term approaches now, on future developments."
"And I think the government shouldn't be shy anymore. I understand this is a difficult issue, I understand that the liberals will be playing this card, but we need to transition to a two-year conscription period . And from these two-year conscripts, we can draw those who might choose to serve under contract," Baranets stated.
