Moscow - Kyiv, July 25 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Half of Russian citizens are in favor of helping Ukrainian refugees settle permanently in the Russian Federation, and only 4% are in favor of sending them immediately home, the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) found out.

According to VTsIOM, 50% of citizens believe that Russia “should provide Ukrainian refugees with everything they need and create conditions for them to live in the Russian Federation.” Another 39% are in favor of sending them to Ukraine “as soon as conditions acceptable to them are created there,” only 4% propose “to stop accepting refugees, and to send those who have already arrived to Ukraine as quickly as possible” (the survey was conducted on July 12-13 among 1,6 thousand people in 42 regions of the Russian Federation, the statistical error is no more than 3,4%).

Despite all the sympathy for the displaced that sociologists talk about, 84% of VTsIOM respondents admitted that they “did not help” refugees. They explain this primarily by the lack of “opportunity, money” (34%), lack of information on how to help (26%), 15% did not help themselves because they consider it a matter of the state, 14% “didn’t think about refugees” or did not know about them, and 12% do not trust those who raise funds. And only 14% of respondents assured VTsIOM sociologists that they had already provided assistance: 45% of them “transferred money,” 40% “sent food and things,” 15% “helped by disseminating information,” and 7% settled refugees in their living space.
