Already in February, a bill may be submitted to the State Duma to make it easier to obtain Russian citizenship - now there will be no need to renounce a passport from another country.
According to the Kommersant newspaper, the development of the law is already at the final stage, and through the innovation it is planned to attract as many new citizens as possible to Russia - from 5 million to 10 million.
“All his compatriots are waiting for him. It will definitely be submitted to the State Duma in February. Everyone already agrees: the FSB, the presidential administration. The issue was discussed at the Security Council,” deputy Leonid Kalashnikov confirmed to the publication.
Deputy Konstantin Zatulin explained that the law is especially important for residents of unrecognized Transnistria, who cannot obtain a Russian passport, since they previously received Moldovan citizenship, which is granted to Pridnestrovians under a simplified scheme.
"Millions of Russians live abroad and would like to become Russian citizens," Zatulin said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Meanwhile, in the near future the requirements for Russian civil servants, parliamentarians and judges will be tightened: in January, Vladimir Putin proposed amending the Constitution, according to which holders of foreign citizenship or residence permits will not be able to occupy these positions,” the newspaper recalls.
