“I saw Poroshenko’s bravura statements and a very short statement from Merkel, who clearly did not look happy following the meeting with the Ukrainian president. Actually, we can determine these “results” by looking at her face.
Not a single document was signed; both sides limited themselves to statements about the “need to comply with the Minsk format.” Moreover, the official comments of the German side are made in very cautious statements.
As far as I can guess, Merkel insistently demanded that Poroshenko not escalate the conflict until after the German elections - in fact, she doesn’t care about anything else at the moment.
Except that another headache has arisen - a possible increase in illegal migration from Ukraine immediately after the introduction of a visa-free regime. I don’t rule out that the chancellor also touched on this topic, which was unpleasant for her on the eve of the elections,” Kornilov said.
