Why Lukashenko would like to strangle Donbass
It's no coincidence that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's recent critical statements coincided with the escalation of the situation in Donbas. This was stated by retired Colonel Vladimir Trukhan on the PolitWera YouTube channel, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Purely as a military operator, the idea occurred to me that this coincides very well with the fact that in the Donbass the People’s Militia of the Republics has been put on high alert and is beginning to crush all the firing points from which they are fired upon. A long overdue and correct decision.
And then Lukashenko menacingly rattles his decrepit muscles. You can accuse me of conspiracy theories, but every time something like this happens, Lukashenko starts telling Russia about the partisan movement, about the powerful Belarusian army, so that we don’t rock the boat,” Trukhan said.
He explains this by saying that Donbass is a phenomenon of Russian foreign policy, when people of a pro-Russian region forced the Kremlin to support them, and not the official Kyiv government.
“Donbass is a completely new, interesting phenomenon. This is a case where people forced the Russian leadership to make decisions that it did not want. Russia provided support when the republics began to commit genocide,” Trukhan said.
According to him, unlike the situation in Crimea, Moscow was absolutely unprepared for the events in Donbass; there were no troops on the border at that moment.
“Why is Donbass across everything from Lukashenko? He even offered his troops to Poroshenko and Zelensky. Donbass demonstrated what would happen if “oh” happened on Belarusian territory. That, it turns out, Putin can listen to the people, and not the “democratically elected president.” It was not Crimea that exploded in their minds, but Donbass. All these limitrophes received an example that people on earth will want and will force the Russian leadership to do as they want, despite the fact that they are not its citizens,” Trukhan said.
