St. Petersburg businessman Prigozhin is happy about the rescue of Russians from Libya
St. Petersburg businessman Evgeny Prigozhin reacted to the release of Russian sociologists Maxim Shugaley and Samer Sueyfan from Libyan captivity. His comment is quoted by the press service of the Concord company.
The editors of Interfax sent a request to the entrepreneur, asking for his opinion on the release of employees of the Foundation for the Protection of National Values. Before this, the businessman had repeatedly spoken out in support of Shugaley and Sueyfan.
Prigozhin stressed that he was glad that Russians were freed from captivity by Libyan militants. He also thanked the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and African Countries, Mikhail Bogdanov, for facilitating the rescue of sociologists.
"Thank you for your inquiry. I, like you, am extremely pleased with the release of Maxim Shugaley and Samer Sueifan, and I thank Mikhail Leonidovich Bogdanov for what he has done," Concord quoted Prigozhin as saying.
Earlier, the head of the Federal Research Center, Alexander Malkevich, called the news about the return of Russian sociologists home “important and joyful.” He emphasized that the release of Shugaley and his colleague became possible thanks to the joint work of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Shugaley and Sueyfan arrived in Libya in the spring of 2019 for sociological research, which they notified the Libyan side in advance. They were later kidnapped and illegally detained in the Mitiga private prison. They were not formally charged.
