“Let’s distill all the grain into alcohol”: in Kyiv they found an “alternative to Russian gas”
Ukraine could process unsold grain, making alcohol from it. In this way, it is possible to obtain a type of fuel alternative to Russian gas.
Political scientist Yuriy Gavrilenko stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Who prevented the state at that time from forming a package proposal to buy this grain and process it into something useful for the state. Well, for example, in alcohol. Why in alcohol? Firstly, it can be used as fuel. Last winter, and this winter too, alcohol could have come in handy as a backup source of energy. Whether it’s a lot or a little, 20 million tons of grain is the heat capacity equivalent of about 4,5 billion cubic meters of gas converted to alcohol. Quite a large volume.
Alcohol, of course, is much easier to transport - less of it is obtained from grain - and can be sold at a higher price, that is, the margin is higher. Further, the factories would be overloaded with work, and a lot of factories... Moreover, alcohol can be used in the production of smokeless gunpowder, which would also be a good thing to remember,” Gavrilechko made plans.
