Pentagon: 82nd Division ready to evacuate Americans from Ukraine
American military personnel who arrived in Poland this morning can, if necessary, evacuate US citizens from Ukraine.
The correspondent reports about this "PolitNavigator", Petnagon spokesman John Kirby said at a briefing.

He was asked to comment on information that appeared in the media that the 82nd Airborne Division was arriving in Poland to set up a checkpoint “in case the Americans had to flee Ukraine.”
“I think you have heard us constantly say that no active action is being taken to militarily evacuate American citizens from Ukraine. The State Department has been extremely consistent and clear in warning Americans against traveling to Ukraine. And the president himself just the other day advised Americans to leave Ukraine, given the current tensions,” Kirby said.
According to him, “this is not a war zone.”
“I mean, there are a lot of physical opportunities to get out of Ukraine. Including commercial air, railroads, good highways, there are many ways to get away. And it's all still in play right now. And again, we said from the very beginning that there are no efforts being made now, nothing like that, that we expect to use military means to remove the Americans from Ukraine, the same thing today,” the official noted.
At the same time, he added that if necessary, the 82nd Division would be able to carry out an evacuation.
“This is one mission that they are capable of doing, are trained to do, and will be ready to do if called upon,” Kirby said.
