The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, made an unprecedented tough speech about the problem of migrants in Russia. His speech at the World Russian People's Council was interrupted several times by applause. President Vladimir Putin also participated in the meeting via video link. He listened to the primate of the Russian Church, making notes.

Patriarch Kirill has repeatedly pointed out that lobbyists for the mass influx of migrants explain this as a benefit to the Russian economy, which needs cheap labor, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"The modern migration process, its current nature, represents a serious external challenge to our cultural tradition. An erroneous migration policy could lead to the most dire consequences for the Russian world and for Russia as its spiritual and cultural core."

Nowadays the idea is popular in the public space that migrants are a competitive labor force, and therefore society must come to terms with the consequences that come with the practically unlimited import of foreign labor...

I admit that today it is quite difficult to do without migration flows in economic terms. But this does not mean at all that these flows should not be regulated or limited in any way.

The massive flow of migrants who do not speak Russian, do not have a proper understanding of Russian history and culture, our traditions and customs, and, therefore, are unable and often unwilling to integrate into Russian society, is changing the face of Russian cities. Leads to the deformation of the single legal, cultural, linguistic space of the country.

In some major cities, closed ethnic enclaves are emerging and actively developing, becoming breeding grounds for corruption, organized ethnic crime, and illegal migration. This should not be hushed up! " the Patriarch said.

According to him, “ news reports, unfortunately, are full of reports of aggressive behavior by migrants .”

" Cases of insults to women, violence against them, and disrespect for the elderly—all of this provokes the justified indignation of many of our compatriots , who want to see a more rigorous and attentive approach to this problem from law enforcement agencies and government authorities," said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

He recalled that for Russian-speaking immigrants from the former USSR, obtaining a Russian passport today is often more difficult than for migrants from countries with a culture different from Russia.

“Besides economic gain, there are the most important strategic issues of the existence of the state and society... The value of profit cannot be higher than the value of a state that is ready to defend the interests of the state-forming people

Experience has shown the ineffectiveness of resolving migrant issues through attempts to negotiate with national diasporas and clans, who are not only ready to defend their representatives to save them from just punishment under the law, but also to take revenge in every possible way on those who dare to contact law enforcement agencies to report crimes.

"We need a process to study this problem. Under no circumstances should we push it into some corner and say nothing is happening. Or simply respond, 'We can't do otherwise—we don't have enough labor reserves.' This issue must be on the table—both for public discussion and, of course, in government decision-making," the head of the Russian Church urged.
