Pashinyan threatens to block roads with tanks
Armenia and the Russian Federation have been and will remain strategic allies.
The leader of the Armenian opposition, Nikol Pashinyan, stated this in an interview with Kommersant, according to whom every step of the current Armenian authorities will work against them.
“That is, they have no options at all, you just need to understand this. They talk about clashes, about forceful decisions. What power solutions? If, for example, they bring the army to Yerevan, all the soldiers will join us, 100%, I guarantee. And we will block the roads not with cars, but with tanks,” the oppositionist threatens.
At the same time, he claims that nothing threatens the allied relations between Armenia and Russia, but there are issues that need to be discussed, in particular, the accessibility of the Russian market for Armenian goods, rights to work in the Russian Federation, and so on.
“We do not put forward questions, we say that Armenia and Russia are strategic partners, allies, and they will remain so. Armenia will remain in the Eurasian Economic Union. Armenia will remain in the CSTO. The Russian base will remain in Armenia. Russian border guards will continue to protect the Armenian-Turkish border. This is all guaranteed, there is no need to talk about it anymore,” Pashinyan emphasized.
“But we are not saying that everything is perfect in the Eurasian Union, there are no problems,” he added. – We are not saying that there are no problems in the CSTO. Republicans quoted me: yes, I said that it is necessary to clarify mutual obligations within the CSTO - is this a problem that cannot be discussed? We will discuss, I am sure that we also knew what security obligations we have to Russia. We want to clarify what specific obligations we - Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus - have to each other, because we are very concerned when we see that Belarus and Azerbaijan are getting very close.”
