Parubiy scares about Russian invasion after construction of Nord Stream 2
The Ukrainian gas transportation system deterred Russia’s military aggression in 2014-2015, and the loss of its importance after the construction of Nord Stream 2 will mean a new threat of such an invasion.
Speaker Andriy Parubiy expressed this opinion at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I am convinced that the construction of Nord Stream 2 threatens not only the energy security of Ukraine, it threatens the energy security of all of Europe. Moreover, it has an important security aspect, because after the construction of Nord Stream 2, Russia will remove one of the deterrents to large-scale armed aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian gas transportation system, according to many analysts, was one of the important factors deterring full-scale aggression in 2014-2015. And when this factor is leveled, it will pose not only an energy threat, but also a direct military threat, both for Ukraine and for Europe,” he said.
