The main mistake of US foreign policy is to present Ukraine as a democracy that they are defending.
Former US Ambassador to the USSR Jack Matlock stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Duran," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"If you support Ukraine in its fight against Russia, that's completely wrong. Ukraine is one of the least democratic countries in the world. The government there came to power through a coup . Therefore, using general terms, some of which are highly emotional, is simply inappropriate. And I would say this is one of the fundamental problems of current foreign policy," Matlock said.
He expressed hope that the emerging Donald Trump administration is negotiating with Moscow through informal channels. However, he recalled that it was the first Trump administration that dealt a blow to relations with Russia by expelling diplomats and imposing sanctions.
