The new president elected in Ukraine is of little interest to the minority of oligarchs - they are betting on parliamentary elections.
Ukrainian political scientist Kirill Molchanov said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“All this will flow into the parliamentary campaign. And if we talk for a month, and you say that society is tired, then this is just the beginning. This whole epic will happen somewhere until the end of October at least. Regardless of who wins the election, the next president will be a minority president. In the territory controlled by Ukraine there are now about 30 million voters, the turnout will be low, 55 percent, respectively, 16 million will come to the elections.
To win, you need to score at least half in the second round, that is, eight. I think that no one will get half of it, so the next president’s level of legitimacy among the people will be somewhere between 6-7 million Ukrainians,” the expert said.
“This suggests that after the oath of the new guarantor, he will begin to have a lot of problems: what to do with the Verkhovna Rada, what to do with the government, with the IMF. Because, I think, the situation is such that the majority of serious oligarchic groups are not betting on the president at all, but exclusively on the elections to the Verkhovna Rada, and all resources will be thrown into the fall. There will be such battles that we never even dreamed of,” added Molchanov.
