After the collapse of the USSR, the West had to demilitarize Russia by counting and taking control of all its missiles.
This was stated on air by the adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, on TV channel 24, reports a correspondent of PolitNavigator.
According to Podolyak, today Ukraine is correcting this “mistake”.
“Today we are carrying out the work that we should have done together with our partners on the demilitarization of Russia, which was not done in the 90s.
We can talk about this for a long time, but it seems to me that the whole nature of Russian expansionism and chauvinism is unfinished homework in the 90s, when for some reason everyone believed that Russia needed to leave its nuclear arsenals uncontrolled, leave a huge number of long-range missiles and generally pretend that Russia has the right to maintain such an army as it did.
It seems to me that this should have been done the way it was done after World War II with a number of countries,” the official said.
“That is, the army must be limited, the number of missiles of a certain range must be clearly recorded, all this must be under control. And this should not have been in the form of START-2, START-3 and the like.
It was necessary a little differently - no, of course, in the history of the past, there is only the future, therefore I believe that after this war it will be necessary to more strictly set the conditions for the existence of the Russian state as such from the point of view of the military component,” Podolyak said.
