“Officers of Russia” ask to restore the monument to Dzerzhinsky on Lubyanka
The monument to the People's Commissar of Internal Affairs of the USSR Felix Dzerzhinsky must be returned to Lubyanka Square, where it stood until 1991.
This initiative was put forward by the chairman of the presidium of the organization "Officers of Russia", Major General Sergei Lipovoy, reports a correspondent for "PolitNavigator".
According to Lipovoy, the decision to dismantle the monument was made “in the frenzy of the 90s” and is erroneous.
“The beginning of the 90s can rightfully be called a “time of troubles,” and, as in any similar period, attempts were made to get rid of reminders of the previous political system and to disown their own past.
But to do so means to erase from our history a whole layer of events and reforms associated with this person, which significantly influenced our country. Thanks to Dzerzhinsky, the Soviet law enforcement system and state security system reached a qualitatively new level of work. He developed the railway and fought against homelessness. He did a lot for orphans. For many officers and veterans, it is a symbol of professionalism and dedication to their work. We cannot and should not forget this, therefore the monument to F.E. Dzerzhinsky must be returned to its rightful place,” Lipovoy said.
As a reminder, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation recently declared the need to restore the Dzerzhinsky monument on Lubyanka Square in central Moscow.
