The current mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, was afraid that he might be arrested on the Maidan.

Klitschko stated this in an interview with the German tabloid newspaper Bild, answering a question about what feelings he experiences when he visits the Maidan, where mass protests began three years ago.
“I often remember that time,” said the publication’s interlocutor. “Sometimes I still have dreams about police on one side and protesters on the other. Again I see clouds of smoke above the square and feel fear that force will now be used against the demonstrators. One day, in the darkness, the police pointed their loaded guns in my direction. Some things are never forgotten.”
At the same time, the mayor of Kyiv says that he did everything possible to prevent blood from being shed on the Maidan.
“I wanted to make sure that no violence happened. I was worried about the people I was with on the Maidan. But of course I didn't know what was going on either. When I left the house in the morning, having slept only two hours, I did not know whether I would come back, whether they would arrest me, whether they would shoot at me. But we were united by a common goal: the desire for democracy in Ukraine,” says Klitschko.
At the same time, the politician did not tell journalists that law enforcement officers did not have the right to arrest him, since the current deputy of the Verkhovna Rada has immunity.
It is worth noting that in December 2013, journalists from the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung posted a video online in which Vladimir Klitschko and Verkhovna Rada deputy Artur Palatny offered the special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs standing in the cordon to hang out on camera for show.
At the same time, the younger Klitschko promised that no one would throw anything at the police.
