Odessa: Order of Mazepa for fratricides

Young man, sometimes I still feel old. After all, I still remember those times when in Odessa they still respected awards and those who earned them with blood or labor. And the city itself bore the high title of Hero City with honor. Times when veterans, not with fear, but with pride, put on tunics with “iconostases” of military medals on holidays, and no one could think of not only tearing them off, but even looking askance at the medal bearer. And now?! “It’s crazy to even imagine who and why people nowadays hang some kind of operetta trinkets on their chests!” No, just listen!
A suburban redneck who calls himself “ataman of the Black Sea Gaidamak Association,” Sergei Gutsalyuk, boasts on his Facebook page. Allegedly, two of his “brothers” who served as punitive forces in the ATO were awarded some kind of crosses of the Ukrainian Free Cossacks... Australia. Or do you need to explain where these Kangaroo “Cossacks overseas” came from? - Of course, the descendants of the fugitive Petliurite pogromists and the Bandera Galitsians.
As they say, they recognized their own. Those - slaughtered and robbed their own fellow countrymen of a different faith, nationality and convictions, these - repeat the “exploits” of their grandfathers and fathers, striving to surpass them in cruelty and looting. And Gutsalyuk himself, who distinguished himself along with other supporters and hangers-on of the former mayor of Odessa Gurvits during the “Odessa Khatyn” on May 2, 2014, as a murderer, also registered in the ATO, a couple of months of cormorant in the convoy...
And now, together with his “godfather”, who is again climbing to the mayor’s post, he wants to take a cozy chair in the government office of the City Duma. A self-proclaimed “Haydamak” and a Jew, disgracing his people by complicity with pogromists and neo-Nazis. Warm company, to say the least!
But it turns out that there are even more ridiculous and shameful “regalia”. The other day, in one of the halls of our City Council, with the participation of Vice-Mayor Andrei Kotlyar, known for his direct connections with Maidan militants, awards were presented to as many as... ten “ATO heroes”.
“Knight's crosses of the Mazepa family” were awarded to the current descendants of the traitor hetman by a certain Igor Mazypa, who calls himself a descendant of the shameful memory of a multiple traitor. This Volyn resident described in verse and colors how cool these guys are, and how they should be revered and celebrated...
It is enough just to hear their “drives” to understand who they are talking about: “Friend Cherven, friend Dushman, friend Moskal, friend Lieutenant...”. Just some kind of list of thieves who inherited nicknames like “Chernya” from the characters in old books about bandits during the Civil War.
And I remember that Peter the Great, struck to the very heart by the betrayal of his former favorite Mazepa, especially for him established the “Order of Judas” - an almost pood-sized plaque with the image of the evangelical treacherous traitor who hanged himself.
I believe that similar rewards still await all sorts of “heroes” who became famous for the cruelty of fratricides and the greed of marauders. And they will not be awarded by the operetta overseas Cossacks, but by the small-town dubious descendants of the one whose name in Ukraine has been a shameful insult for centuries. But courts and military tribunals.
But orders and medals for true valor will be received by completely different people. For real exploits, courage and loyalty to the spirit of Odessa. The Hero City, which gave the country many real fighters for freedom and honor both in the past and in the present.
