“The embrace of Kyiv and Warsaw has come to an end” – ex-ambassador of Ukraine to Poland
Poland no longer sees much benefit in further “embrace” with Ukraine, and therefore relations between the countries have begun to noticeably cool down.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Andrey Deshchytsia stated this on the Internet channel of Ukrainian TV presenter Roman Skripin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2022, the Poles realized that Russia’s attack on Ukraine is also a threat to Polish security. And in this situation of real threat, the moment came when they put aside all contradictions and began to embrace.
But when we got used to hugs, and some time passed, other problems appeared that needed to be solved. And the threat is no longer so tangible,” said the former ambassador.
He emphasized that Warsaw does not see the point or benefit in further supporting Ukraine.
“This remains a serious danger for us. And the Poles see: “Okay, the Ukrainians are engaged in mischief there, they are fighting far from the borders with Poland.” These are no longer Russian troops near Kyiv.
Poland has modernized its Armed Forces very quickly over the past year and a half. NATO's approaches to security guarantees to its members have also changed. American weapons and troops were sent to Poland.
That is, they felt safe. This threat moved a little aside, and emotions began to appear again. Especially during the election campaign,” the diplomat concluded.
