This was stated in a statement by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Press, Harlem Désir, published on the organization’s website.
“Sheremet’s death reminds us that the safety of journalists must be a priority in Ukraine and elsewhere,” Désir said.
“I call on the authorities to protect media freedom by ensuring effective investigations and thereby preventing the fear and self-censorship that such attacks fuel”!, the OSCE representative emphasized.
According to him, Sheremet “was an outstanding journalist and a role model for the young journalists he trained.”
“What is the message today, a year after his murder, for the future of media in Ukraine? This crime cannot remain unsolved,” said Désir.
At the same time, as PolitNavigator reported, the Poroshenko administration demanded that the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine seek the "hand of the Kremlin" in its editorial offices rather than engage in protecting journalists.
