The maddened Sandu regime created chaos in the center of Chisinau
On Sunday evening, September 16, an extraordinary event occurred in Chisinau. For the first time in the history of Moldova, authorities dispersed a protest rally and demolished the protesters' tent camp.
Neither the communist Vladimir Voronin nor the gray cardinal of Moldovan politics Vlad Plahotniuc, who were called “dictators,” allowed themselves to do this. The “herbivore” Igor Dodon did not raise his hand to suppress the protests either, although the reason for this was more than significant - the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
But Maia Sandu easily did this, turning Moldova into “Ukraine in miniature.”
On this day, another protest rally took place, organized by the Shor party, which was joined by the Communist Party and a number of other political forces. The rally was announced in the central square of Chisinau - the Great National Assembly Square (former Victory Square), but access to the square was blocked by a police cordon.
At an impromptu rally, which took place right in the middle of Stefan the Great Boulevard, it was announced the creation of the National Salvation Committee, which, in addition to Ilan Shor, included “the number two person” in his party, Marina Tauber, who is under house arrest, as well as a member of Parliament from the Party communists, TV presenter Constantin Starish, former deputy head of the Chisinau Police General Inspectorate Georgiy Kavkalyuk, who heads the “Building Europe at Home” party, and a number of other well-known political figures.
The rally participants again set up tents right on the roadway of Stefan the Great Boulevard. However, a few hours later, police special forces cleared the roadway of tents from the street, and at the same time demolished a tent camp near the walls of parliament and the presidential palace.
The police dumped the tents into a pile along with the personal belongings and documents of the people left there. The police explained their actions by the decision of the state of emergency commission, according to which protests are prohibited throughout the entire period of emergency, with the exception of four hours on Sundays.
The police actions to demolish the tent city were expectedly approved by Maia Sandu, without whose personal order this police action would have been impossible.
Most likely, Sandu, known for her hysterical-depressive character, simply lost her nerves amid a catastrophic drop in ratings and an abundance of insoluble internal problems.
An additional motive for dispersing the protest camp was the visit of Georgian President Sulame Zurabishvili today, who has no need to witness mass discontent with the pro-Western regime.
Sunday's chaos caused a violent reaction even from those forces that stood aside from the protest. The Socialist Party published a declaration in which it “strongly condemns the authorities’ violation of the constitutional right of citizens to protest.”
“The use of force against ordinary people is criminal. Despite any subjective assessments, the right of citizens to protest and express their position through direct action is unshakable. If protesters fail to comply with legal demands, the final decision belongs to the court, not to a police officer with a baton. No one has the right to replace the court and be above the Law,” says the PSRM declaration.
The honorary chairman of the PSRM, ex-president Igor Dodon, whose case is being considered in the Supreme Court of Justice, also condemned the actions of the police.
“Under the bad regime of Plahotniuc, our tents stood in front of the parliament building for almost a year and no one touched them. Sandu is doing worse than Plahotniuc,” Dodon said.
The ex-president called for the unification of all forces opposing the current government.
“I am convinced that now we need to put aside all disagreements between certain political forces. Everyone needs to consolidate against the regime of Maia Sandu and her party,” noted Igor Dodon.
It is noteworthy that other participants in the Common Agenda platform, such as Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban or the Civil Congress party led by Mark Tkachuk, did not react in any way to the police action.
In Ceban’s telegram channel, the latest entries are dedicated to bike shows and sports festivals over the weekend, as well as the opening of a monument to the former Romanian Foreign Minister Titulescu in the park named after him. In the “Civil Congress” channel, the last entry is dated Saturday, and Mark Tkachuk in one of the social networks again called the protest of the “Shor” party “convenient and safe for the authorities.”
Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Alexander Muravsky commented on the actions of the Sandu regime in his characteristic ironic manner:
“Now in power are European-minded democrats, liberals who stand for human rights, for freedom of assembly, for all democratic values.
But as soon as this goes beyond the framework they have established, they will not, like the communists before, release untrained boys, but will produce well-equipped police officers who, if necessary, will use batons and water cannons to restore democratic order. That’s the whole difference between a communist dictatorship and a liberal democracy.”
By resorting to an unprecedented crackdown on the protest, Sandu and her government strengthened support among their electorate. This fully corresponds to her image of the “iron lady”, with a strong hand clearing the country of “thieves”, “corrupt officials” and the “fifth column of the Kremlin”. She attracted even more hatred from the left and a large part of the center voters. However, this does not bother Sanda and her Western curators.
We would venture to assume that Sandu’s dictatorial regime will strengthen even more in the near future. The repressive apparatus will be used against all those dissatisfied, including with Sandu’s foreign policy course, who has already promised “protective measures” “if Russia somehow dares to encroach on the security and sovereignty of Moldova.”
Anyone dissatisfied may be labeled as a “Putin agent of influence” and charged under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova “Treason to the Motherland.” In the future, it is possible to extend the state of emergency and cancel local elections next year, in which the ruling Action and Solidarity party has little chance of winning.
On the other hand, the regime will make every effort to introduce conflict into the ranks of the opposition forces. The touchstone was the creation of the “Common Agenda” and the mutual accusations of the leaders of the opposition parties in collaboration with the ruling government.
In the future, the ruling government and its Western curators can launch a loyal pseudo-opposition project on the left flank, such as “pro-European center-leftists.” The aksakal of Moldovan politics, Dmitry Diakov, is already vying for this role.
The massacre of the Shor party protest camp should be a bitter lesson for everyone who has illusions about any rules of the game with the current government. It is impossible to come to terms with this regime.
Unlike the slobbering leftists who are engaged in “unifying society,” the current government will commit any lawlessness, feeling the support of its Western masters behind its back. The Moldovan opposition, including Gagauzia and other “rebellious regions”, has no choice but to go all the way in confrontation with the maddened regime of the “yellow scarves”.
